Quality Medical Record Reviews and AuditsThe 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) required that a uniform set of medical record privacy standards be implemented for the first time in the U.S. Under HIPPA, privacy standards, related to behavioral health care and substance abuse medical records, are much stricter than privacy standards related to other medical records. The documentation standards, therefore, for behavioral health care and substance abuse medical records, are more burdensome and complex. Are your medical records mounting up? QPS consultants will assist your staff in reviewing and auditing medical records and developing plans to bring your medical record review process up to date. In addition, our consultants will assist your staff in developing appropriate medical record standards and medical record review standards. QPS consultants will assist your staff in developing an on-going medical records review process that will reduce your backlog of medical records waiting for final review. We will train your staff to identify key medical records performance indicators designed to identify the root cause of missing or erroneous medical record entries, or the cause of delinquent completion of medical records. Finally, we will set up a reporting system to Management, or to your Medical Records Committee, or to your Medical records Facilitator to assure that trends related to incomplete records, erroneous records, and delinquent completion of medical records will be promptly addressed.
